UK homes use a lot of energy and therefore produce a lot of CO₂. By replacing fossil fuels with more environmentally friendly technologies, we can help the UK achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050. And we’ve designed a mortgage feature to reward people who want to make a change.  

With our new retrofit discount feature, you are rewarded for installing either solar panels or a heat pump in your home. This means you benefit from lower mortgage payments and lower carbon emissions.

What is retrofitting? 

Retrofitting means upgrading your home so that you use less energy to live in it. This helps you save energy and may also help you save on bills

There are lots of different things you can do to retrofit your home. Everything from putting insulation in your loft, to installing a heat pump can help lower your carbon footprint. Want to learn more? We’ve pulled together a list of independent resources that could help.

Considering renewable technologies? 

Renewable technologies like solar panels and heat pumps can significantly reduce the energy you use at home.

If you install either of these when you remortgage to us, we’ll reward you with our retrofit discount. Here’s how they work: 

• Heat pumps do the same job as your boiler, but much more efficiently! They transfer heat from the outside air to the water which gets distributed around your house. 

• Solar panels let you make your own electricity from sunlight. This can lower your electricity bills and cut how much power you need from the grid. If you generate more than you use, you can also make money by selling it back to the grid! 

Other energy efficient upgrades 

There are lots of other ways to make your home more energy efficient too. Here are just a few:

• Insulation keeps your home warm in winter and cool in summer.

• Energy-efficient windows cut heat loss, noise, and bring in natural light.

• Smart thermostats adjust your home’s temperature automatically.

• LED lights use less energy and last longer.
